It was a dawn of a new age for the tribes of Scandza. The Swedes and Danish united many tribes, and the old gods were rapidly being destroyed by the spread of a religion from only the slaves from the southern population. It was within this rapidly evolving environment that the vikings were looking for something new: a cause by which to die for and prove oneself in battle. This new environment provides for the most ambitious warrior the most epic journey. Vikings go from pirate to mercenary.
Atli was a warrior in this environment. He was such a feared man that his last name was Shattersword. His fierce appearance and aggressive fighting was what gave him this name. When Atli was a child, he first learned swordsmanship, and killed his best friend Ogmund in training in a very specific way. Ogmund tried to go for the kill with a stab, but Atli did not let it, and swung his sword in diagonally at Ogmund′s arm. The blades intercepted, but with more force belonged to Atli Shattersword as he displaces his opponent′s sword, and with a small step forward and turn of the wrist, the sword plunges into Ogmund′s throat. Was this something to be proud of? The High King thought so,but as for Atli? He found a great depression in his heart. The sadness of losing your loved ones: is this really the way? It is mostly proper that a warrior would be concerned about those who are also harmed from the death of a loved one. There are certain pains that even the ones blessed with a war-like spirit could never endure. Atli Shattersword swore off all killing, but also recognized that as a result: to win wars, he had to be the captain of his mercenary unit. He may not kill, but his men will.
Atli was invited to the jomsvikings , and later fought against them in the Norwegian siege of Jomsborg after he finds out of crimes committed against his family
He later becomes a Varangian
