Lila
A Goddess Reborn
Lila isn't human, she wasn't ever human, in fact, her real name isn't even Lila but doesn't bother asking her for her real name, she can't remember it. Lila was created before the very first humans had their very first thought. At times she can remember when she wasn't as twisted as she is today but she doesn't like to. A goddess of warmth and light, her job was to bring hope to people, to instill in them kindness. She was pure, holy, untouched and perfect till the wrath and jealousy of another goddess touched her. Accused of things she didn't do or understand she was cast out of the home of the gods and her spirit forced into the shell of a mortal. At the Beginning There was once light in Lila's eyes, hope and kindness were her thing. She'd wake and look forward to seeing the smiles on faces and hearing laughter, there was a time when she loved mortals and did what she could to make their lives happy and comfortable. There were once temples erected in her honor, she was worshiped by virgins; all who needed hope sought her out, all who needed a kind hand prayed to her. Her temples were beacons of warmth in the cold, a place to sleep where there were no shelters, a place where donations were given to the needy. She never once saw the corruption of man, never once knew the sin of the heart, her world was pure. The city of the gods loomed above, on a distant plane but close enough to keep a watchful eye on the humans. Gods and goddesses of all kinds resided there, some kind and benevolent, some malicious and cruel and some very good at hiding their cruel ways from others. Just as greed, lust, and sin was rampant amongst humans, so was it amongst the gods. Lila tried to stay clear of the gods and goddesses, there were always arguments and bickering and it always seemed to make her crave tending to the humans more, she never once knew how her actions affected others or how her presence caused others to lust, not till it was too late. "The sound of your agony is my lullaby." Nothing Ever Last Forever The wife of a god grew jealous of Lila and how her husband pined after her, Lila didn't understand why the god sought her out but she played off his advances as him being foolish or childish, taunting her and teasing her in an innocent fashion, only, she was the only one who saw it as innocent. One day her life was turned up on its end; she was confronted by the jealous goddess who was convinced that her husband had been laying with Lila for a while now. No matter what Lila said the goddess wouldn't hear it, no matter how much Lila pleaded with her, the goddess cast her spell. Lila was cast out, her spirit forced from her goddess body and down into the realm of man, the mortal realm. It was there that she learned the truth about it all. Granted it took time but after hundreds of years of moping, she realized. The gods didn't listen or help and the humans were greedy wastes of time. The Descent Lila's descent into madness was a slow process, as a human, she found that her abilities were non-existent, at least at first. She was nothing, a nobody and she couldn't seem to catch a break. If it wasn't one thing it was another, no one would help her, no one would give her a job or a place to stay without something in return and when she had nothing and refused to give her body, she was turned away. Desperate and tired, knowing hunger for the first time she went to one of her temples but where she had seen kindness, she found none, and she snapped. Of course, she felt horrible after killing a few of the followers of her once holy temple and being killed in the process she thought her life was over, that she'd move on, she did, just not in the way she thought she would. Her spirit moved from the dead body she had been in and into another body or a young girl on her death bed. The town she had come to thought it was a miracle, they praised the gods and for a while, Lila's faith had also been restored, till the humans turned on her later. Her miracle recovery became witchcraft and people became hostile to her and the family she had been staying with, it wasn't long before she needed to leave. Going from place to place, city to city, town to town she tried to find things that strengthened her faith but found nothing. Greed was more common than anything, and lust. Humans lusted after things they couldn't have, things that were not freely given and it wasn't long before she found blood on her hands again, this time, protecting her virtue from unwanted advances. She had fled the town and tried to shove the memories from her mind but they wouldn't stop. She prayed to the gods she used to know, the ones she grew up with, she thought they would hear her, though they would answer, they didn't. Falling further and further into despair she couldn't seem to find good virtues in any human she met, they all lies, all cheated, all lusted and sinned and she wasn't any better now. The blood on her hands never seemed to wash off and then one day, she just stopped washing it off.
