Tale of Sister Abigail Category: Blogging
If you follow just the right path into the Mississippi swamp you will come upon an old cabin lit at night by just the flickering flames of hurricane lamps. The front porch is large and inviting, just walk on up. Why look there. Sister Abigail is sitting there in her old rocking chair. Now no one really knows how old Sister Abigail is, but everyone agrees she is a whole mess older than she looks. Now look at that, she is waving you on up on the porch. That's just how Sister Abigail is, she's never met a stranger.
No, Sister Abigail sees none who find their way to her home as strangers. She knows they are all there for a reason. In most cases the outside world has judged them unfit, but to Sister Abigail they are simply broken. Sister Abigail makes it her place to fix broken, even if the results are far from what society would want. If society wanted them fixed some special way then society should have fixed them and not sent them here.
So walk on up onto the porch and if she has you sit on the porch itself right by her rocker then she already knows just why you are there even if you don't. She will offer you a smile, and call you "Child" marking you as one of her flock. Even if you do not realize just yet, you've given yourself to this woman from the swamp lands, this is just how she knew things would be before you ever had your baby bottom smacked and cried that first time.
Soon you'll find yourself doing wash, chopping wood, maybe even killing one of the wild creatures of the swamp for the next day's meal. That's one thing you will find here, everybody has a job to do. That being busy is how she teaches her children to find that part of themselves she will send back out of the swamp one day. But for now, sit there at her feet and bask in her attentions.
