KOED Lyonesse (KOED-Ly) ruled by Elpis Riddick-Lust Those who
may stand on the extreme point of the Land′s End, and, looking over that space
where the waters of the Atlantic mix with those of the British Channel, see in
the far distance the Scilly Islands, will have to call upon their imagination
to conceive that these broad waters roll over a country which has existed
within historic time.
A region of
extreme fertility, we are told, once united the Scilly Islands with Western
Cornwall. A people, known as the Silures, inhabited this tract,--which has been
called the Lyonesse, or sometimes Lethowsow,--who were remarkable for their
industry and their piety.
The legend
of a sunken kingdom appears in both Cornish and Breton mythology. In Christian
times it came to be viewed as a sort of Cornish Sodom and Gomorrah, an example
of divine wrath provoked by unvirtuous living, although the parallels were
limited in that Lyonesse remained in Cornish thought very much a mystical and
mythical land, comparable to the role of Tir na nÓg in Irish mythology.
The rocks
called the Seven Stones are said to mark the place of a large city. Even
tradition is silent on the character of this great cataclysm.
Lyonesse
was famous for over 140 chapel, cathedrals and churches before it sank. After
the rising those buildings were turned into holy and unholy places of
knowledge, lore and learning. Closely connected and protected by the Elders of
Hy-Brasil, these places have been turned into schools and libraries.
The largest
chapel of Lyonesse was turned into The Great Library – it is the seat and
domain of The Librarian, who is ruler of Lynonesse.
The Great
Library is an overwhelming structure that rules the scenery of Lyonesse and is
filled with thousands of books, scrolls and papers concerning the Lust family,
magic, lore and power. It can easily compaired with the Great Library of
Alexandria.
By raising
the island the trinity of the Elder Island – Avalon, Hy-Brasil and Lyonesse –
is restored. Portal have been activated that allow the journey from any given
point of the island to either the KOED mainland in Avalon or to Hy-Brasil. The
Harrowgates do not allow travel to Lyonesse, but away from Lyonesse, as safety
measure.
THE
LIBRARIAN - Elpis Riddick-Lust - is the official ruler of Lyonesse and in
charge of all books. All protective spells are bound to the Librarian. She is
warrior, magican and scholar at the same time as she has to protect the extreme
amount of knowledge and power stored in KOED’s biggest library.
As there is
so much power and knowledge stored and the need to gather information as well
as sort it, she has a chosen group of trusted individuals that help her. They
are called the Librarians. Each Librarian usually brings certain qualities to
Lyonesse that help him or her perform their duties.
THE ORDER
OF ELDERS is a group of skilled magic users who are bound to a code of honor.
They protect knowledge and pass it on. But they are separated into different
houses to part the power their combined knowledge could hold. Each member of
the Council of Elders is guardian to one specific book of power. Only The
Librarian has access to all books and each house.
