Violent Defiance Category: Blogging
(Based on the Battle of Isandlwana on January 22, 1879, which resulted in the stunning defeat of British forces in South Africa.) A large column of British and colonial troops, Along with many civilians who stood by their side, Were slowly but surely almost annihilated, Except for some who managed to finally escape, After engaging in brutal combat with the enemy. Yet the main column had been cleverly diverted, As the commander departed with most of his force, To chase what he believed to be an entire Zulu army. But this was merely a distraction and nothing more, Thus leaving the smaller force all by themselves, While thousands of warriors methodically closed in. Yet were met with violent and determined resistance, As dead and wounded Zulu bodies lay everywhere, Along with the majority of the British and their allies, For casualties on both sides were extremely heavy, But despite the larger force having mostly shields and spears Pitted against the much smaller yet better armed redcoats, Eventually the invaders were defeated and partly destroyed, Only to return later with yet another determined army, Who would conquer a truly brave but overwhelmed foe. Yet on this day victory was all theirs on the battlefield. As the mighty Zulu warriors stood together in triumph.
