A little practice
Category: Uncategorized

On the days when Moira was given time off from training in Asgard she took leave, at home when Ryan had been there, and today in Egypt with her aunt. She got training from Arethusa as well and helped her in the tasks that fell in the work of her being an important part of two very large libraries. The texts from Alexandria were fascinating and Mo had been inside reading much more then she had cataloged, which wasn't what she was supposed to do. Needing some time out of the shadows of the old dark rooms she moved outside, heading in the opposite direction of the water, away from the grainy soil where soft grasses popped out and into a more granular, sandy hilltop. She moved over the horizon and then shuffled down till she was far enough away from buildings that she felt entirely alone. Laying in the sand she sank and settled into the soft earth, eyes closed to the sun, and her mind on the letter her brother had sent her while she was in Asgard. Paired with well wishes for what she was doing he had included a spell, something he had swiped for her which made her doubly proud of him. Recalling the words she had memorized before putting the paper someplace safe she tried it now, murmuring the words, holding her hand out and praying for the best. When a shield billowed before her, translucent but obviously there from the image before her being distorted, like she was seeing it through water. She yelped in a proud shock, and let her hand fall away the shield faltering before it flickered out. “Wonder if I can do that behind me as well?” She murmured to herself tucking her hand under her arm so her palm faced the sand behind her. She again murmured the words, willing it more so then before to work. The explosion of sand that covered her shocked her, and she gasped, breathing some in as a massive pile settled on top of her.

Crawling out of the sand wasnt easy. More simple then quick sand she assumed but she sputtered and pushed sand from onto of her head, clawing until she broke through to the surface. She coughed, pounding her fist into her chest to help any sand in her throat out before she rolled onto her side laughing. Now she knew not to do that lying down. She assumed she had put to much energy behind it, worried it wouldn't work, it had caused a sinkhole in the sand behind her, ‘shielding her’ sure but also burying her in the process. When her laughing tittered off she coughed again pushing up onto her knees and shaking her hair out, a shower of sand cascading down around her. It was an effort to push to her knees and she slapped more sand off her pants, shaking out her shirt where even more fell. “Ry will be impressed,” she snorted to herself but though she had managed to bury herself alive she figured he might just be. She had worked to spell, the first time she had tried something totally alone, and it had been his find and she had pulled it off, the second time with enough power that she hadn't expected she could harness. Still brushing herself clean she was already writing a letter to her brother in her head, telling him all about it. She thought about being able to tell him in person, but she was expected back in Asgard come morning. Once inside she did pen that letter, giving him every detail, her delight in the scenario evident in her tone as she wrote. She ended the thing with a flourish of her pen, promising that she would come to Arcadia on her next full day off from everything. She made sure Ryans letter was sent before she moved back into the stacks of ancient scrolls, feeling lighter about her work, atleast until she got drawn into reading something over cataloging once again.
