Celebrating Darkness in the Water Kingdom (Excerpts from book 2) TFR-FK
Category: Uncategorized

Saying that the past year was eventful, or challenging was an understatement.  There had been two births, one full pregnancy, many deaths, and several weddings, and affairs.  Between His wife, and Himself they had also helped to plant the seeds that would hopefully grow into a peace between all of the lands in the realm.  He could hardly believe that it was that time again.  His wife was Queen over two Kingdoms, their children learning to help rule each of them.  Now, He stood over the crib of their youngest child, watching Him sleep.  He’d already dressed for the Ball.  Darkness was the easiest for Him.  His hair was a medium length tonight, just barely touching the edge of His brow.  It would rest comfortably over the mask He was set to wear.  He didn’t bother going fully out with His outfit, He knew that as long as he stayed by His wife, the attention would not be on Him anyway.  A simple black, button up shirt, and black slacks would be plenty for Him.  Their masks were to match tonight.  His would have thicker, simple designs, while Hers would be elegant and intricate, more feminine.
They were to Meet Aidan and Melodie in the Water Kingdom before the introductions.  The twins, and each of their other halves would be joining them as well.  Diana had been so thrilled about the ball this year.  She was actually allowed to pick Her own clothes for the event for the first time in centuries.  Last he’d heard She’d decided on a black cat mask, and a flowing silk dress.
Picking up the small, sleeping Child, He carried Him into the bedroom to grab the final things they would need.  Last year had been in the capitol where the embassies were, and they were able to stay in their own areas.  This year the ball was to be held in the Water Kingdom.  Rooms had been assigned to each of them within the castle.  His Queen’s personal guard Dustin was to stay with them at all times, and Geneva was coming for the nights of the balls to watch over Lael.  Both of the guards would be meeting them at the entrance to the portal.  Rein would be in charge of the Kingdom in the absence of both Him and Aidan.  His wife had placed Jesse, and Danger, The Beta pairing of Cherie’s pack over the Earth Kingdom while they would all be away.  They would be the next guards in line.  The child stirred in His arms, growing restless as He finished tending to the final tasks.  He swayed, humming softly to the boy, quieting Him for at least the Moment.

His wife appeared in the doorway of the nursery, and he paused.  She was fully dressed for the ball and ready.  His first thought was wondering how He had ever been capable of straying from her.  For the darkness theme, She wore a black leather corset that wrapped perfectly around her small waist, enhancing the curves she naturally had.  The top had a black skull that rested just over the black lace fabric that covered her chest, surrounded by black feathers that spread out to the edge of her shoulders.  The lower half pushed out in three rows of curved extensions that enhanced the curve of her hips even more than before. black lace fabric matching what covered her chest flowed down behind her from the first layer, The second layer was a sheer black flowing evenly with the first.  The third layer was a thick black fabric that covered the back half of her legs, and rear.  The front half was exposed.  Her legs were only covered by stockings in an intricate lace design that matched her mask.  Her nails were filed into claws, and painted black.
“Perfect…” He whispered, looking her over.  A smile curved on her darkly painted lips.  She slowly moved towards him, and he enjoyed every second of watching her. Their lips met in a quick kiss as she took their son to hold.  His hand moved just under the third row of fabric to caress Her rear with a smirk. “We will definitely be slipping away this year again.” He purred, brushing his lips against her neck softly.
“That better be a promise.” She whispered back, turning to meet his lips in a kiss.
“Oh it is.” He whispered against her lips, letting the kiss linger.  Lael fussed in her arms, drawing their attention back to what they were to be doing.

With the bags in one hand, and the other remaining on his wife, he sifted them away to the portal.  Once they arrived, Geneva, and Dustin were waiting for them.  Dustin took the bags from the King, and Geneva took the Child from the Queen.  No words were spoken in the exchanges.  The King faced the portal, holding his hands out as He spoke the words to open it.  The portal expanded, and opened for them.  Geneva, and Dustin went through the portal first.  The King took His Queen’s hand, fingers lacing with hers before stepping through.  They arrived on the dark half of the Fyre Kingdom.  The entire dark half of the fyre castle was built underground with tunnels stretching all through the Kingdom.  The baby could be heard fussing as they passed through the portal, The Queen cooing to quiet him automatically without thought.  The four sifted together to the Water Kingdom, arriving in the main room.  The walls were lighted by lamps holding glowing kelp, and seaweed.
“I’m surprised you guys are on time.  Usually you’re late.” Aidan’s voice echoed through the massive room.  The walls were made of a stone that The King recognized, but did not know the name of.  It was green, and gave off a soft glow of its own.  Three more followed Aidan into the room.  The King nodded towards his Son. “Nice to see you Del.” He said, looking to each of the others in the room as well. “Melodie.” He nodded to her, receiving and back. “Cherie.” He smiled slightly at her name, the happiness of seeing her a little too clear.  His Son’s hands clenched into fists, His jaw tensing.  The low growl coming from his Queen’s direction indicated that her reaction was not much different.  Aidan Cleared his throat. “Well I’ve been shown where all of our rooms will be.  Follow me.” He began moving towards the quarters that had been set up for the Fyre Kingdom.  The King moved to place His hand on His wife’s waist, only to have her pull away, and walk faster
“You know.” Dustin said, moving up beside the King. “She just got used to having the woman you cheated with as her daughter in law.  You might not want to be so friendly with that woman right in front of your wife.”
“I only greeted her.  Nothing more.” He snapped back to the guard.
“It was the way you greeted her.” Dustin said, looking towards the Queen as she hurried ahead.  Dustin moved quickly to catch up with her, leaving the King alone with Geneva, and the baby.  Had he been too friendly with his greeting?  The affair had ended long before Cherie had even met Del.  He was still attracted to her, but would not act on it.  She was their daughter in law now.  Besides.  He and his queen had fixed the problems that had lead to the affair.  It hadn’t been a one sided affair either.  She’d retaliated.  They had worked through it all though, and Lael had been the result.  He moved to take the baby from geneva, and held him close as they made their way to their room.

----

Introductions, and announcements went smoothly.  Their daughter had entered with the Water Kingdom, and their Son had entered behind them with His wife.  His own wife was quiet by His side as the entrances were made.  Beforehand she had asked for Yvonne to be the Godmother of their youngest son Lael.  The boy had been a product of their reunion after a dark period in their lives.  They had grown distant after the previous celebrations, focusing on the work needed to run the Kingdoms, and not paying enough attention to their own needs.  He had strayed for a period, growing fond of the woman that was now their daughter in law.  His staying away from her had lead her to seek out another to sustain her own needs.  She was  succubus in nature, and when deprived, it will take over. They had parted for a short while, only to return to each other very quickly after.  She had become pregnant with Lael, and they had never parted again.  They had decided to leave the past in the past, and move into a new future, even renewing their vows.  When the past came up again though, it was tense between them.  Fears and doubts still lingered occasionally.

They were seated together as usual, putting on the smiling faces for all to see.  They didn’t move, or get up to dance.  They just sat quietly by themselves, unsure of what to say to ease the tension.  Eventually Ronan came over to them, and asked to speak with him alone.
“Of course.” He nodded, sitting up, and resisting an urge to let out a sigh of relief.  He bent down to kiss his wife’s cheek, and followed ronan out to the balcony that looked out over the water.  “What did you want to speak with me about?” He asked, turning to face in ronan’s direction.
“Raina.” Ronan responded.
He couldn’t help the sneer that came at the mention of His daughter’s name from the seal.  He knew what Selkies were like with relationships.  They always chose the water over their lovers, and left them with broken hearts.  That was not something that He wished for his daughter.
“What about Raina?” He asked, trying to hide the tension in his voice, but failing.
“I would like your permission to ask her to marry me.” Ronan responded with a confidence that could not be denied.  “I know that you will probably not approve, or give me another book of rules to follow.  I figured that I should ask you though above anyone else.”
He was quiet for a long while, contemplating the thoughts running around His head.  Selkies could swim, so throwing him over the balcony was out of the question, not to mention the trouble it would get him into with the rest of the realm.  He and his wife were already watched closely by the advisers.  He inhaled deeply, exhaling slowly after holding it for a few seconds.  His body rose a few degrees as he continued to circle the thoughts through his mind.  He knew how much raina loved him.  He saw the way his daughter looked at the seal.  It was very clear that He felt the same for her since he was asking permission for such a thing.  Selkies never married of their own will.  All selkie marriages were mostly forced by humans who stole their pelts.  He had proven that he could stay with her since they had been living together by the water, and he hadn’t run away so far.
“Same rules apply.  You hurt her in any way shape of form your pelt is ash.” He finally spoke, his teeth gritted together firmly.
“Understood.” Ronan responded calmly. “I would never dream of hurting her.”
“Then you have my permission.” He said hesitantly with a nod. “When do you plan on asking her?” He asked curiously.
“Tomorrow night.” Ronan said with a smile. “I figured it would be a perfect announcement for the water Kingdom.  We can celebrate the rest of the week on fyre and earth nights as well.”
“Tomorrow night is fine.  It will give me a chance to speak with her mother.”  He nodded, and stepped back towards the ballroom. “Excuse me.  I’ll be heading back in to see if I can catch a few moments with my wife while I can.” He said, returning back inside to track down his wife.
