A blue morning for Kassi (Excerpt from book 2)
Category: Uncategorized

Mornings in the Water Kingdom were a lot different than she had grown up with in the capitol, and grown used to in the human realm.  The never ceasing darkness was beginning to get to her.  She had slipped away during the night, and returned to her home in the Qual Ando to find more comfort.  Her dress lay on the floor, but she’d been too exhausted to clean the paint from herself the night before when she’d arrived, and just thrown herself into bed completely naked.  Skipping showering had thrown off her normal routine though, and she put on her pink fluffy robe, heading into the bathroom where she would combine her nightly, and morning routine.  She looked into the mirror, and shook her head.  At least the paint had stayed on, and not smeared all over her pillow.  She tossed up her hair, and pulled out her toothbrush.  The Human toothpastes, and mouthwashes intrigued her.  There were so many choices!  She loved the whitening ones, because what was better than perfectly white teeth?  She brushed her teeth, and pulled out her face washes, toner, masks, and moisturizers.  She worked her way up to the mask, putting it on quickly as she set up her bath.  She put in rose scented salts, bubble bath, and crumbled up a scented block to soften the water.  Once her bath was ready, She dropped the robe to the floor, and stepped in.  A remote for the stereo had been placed on the edge of the bath.  When she’d first arrived, she’d known nothing of this world.  Her nikerym had slowly been introducing her to different things in the world.  Recently she’d discovered that she enjoyed certain music with upbeat, and poppy themes.  Currently she was on a kick with a woman that apparently had a famous brother who was also a singer.  The music began to play, and she sat back, relaxing in the tub, letting herself soak, and relax as her face mask set.  Once it was time to remove the mask, She began to scrub at her skin.  The paint didn’t come off at first, so she scrubbed harder.  It still didn’t come off.  The scrubbing became frantic, her skin feeling raw as she grabbed every exfoliant she could find.  She even used the bar for scrubbing her feet all along her body.  Why was the paint not coming off?  A high pitched shriek erupted from her as he began to panic.

Her Nikerym burst into the room after hearing the shriek, and she shrieked again, ducking under the water.  She didn’t want him to see her like this.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, obviously not leaving the room.  She peeked up out of the water slowly, just the top half of her head. “What… did you do?” He asked.
“I didn’t do anything?!” She exclaimed, sitting up fully now for a second before she remembered that she was naked, and covered herself, ducking back under the water. “It was Yvonne, and Raina!  One of them messed up my paint!” She screamed, frantically scrubbing again. “Don’t you trust us?” She mocked their comment, her skin turning a darker blue instead of red.  She would begin bruising soon.
“Ok stop.” He said, coming in now, and taking the scrubbing block away from her. “Can’t you just… cover it up or something and go ask them to fix it? I’m sure they could figure something out.”
“And trust them again?” She asked, snatching the block back, and beginning to scrub herself again. “I don’t think so.”
“Ok, you need to try at least.  Maybe Thane will help?  Or go to Raina’s parents? One of them might know.”
“Argh!” She growled in frustration, splashing the water at him.
“Ok that’s it.” He said sternly, pulling the plug to the tub, and picking up her robe.
“No!” She shrieked, knowing what he was attempting to do, and she would fight him every second of it.
“Yes you spoiled little barbie!” He yelled back, throwing the robe around her, and picking her up to toss over his shoulder. She kicked her feet, and drummed her fists along his back, but he was not giving in.  His arm wrapped firmly around her waist as he carried her kicking and screaming back into the fae realm.

--
After the meeting with His brother, He had gone to find his daughter.  Unfortunately, she had apparently locked herself in her room, and was refusing to come out.  He knocked on the door for the tenth time.
“Kassandra.” He said sternly. “Open the door.”
“No.” She replied defiantly, and dramatically. “I’m never opening the door.  Nobody will ever see my ugly face again, and I’m going to die in here all alone and blue!”
“Blue?” He asked, confused.  He looked to the Nikerym that waited outside the door with him.
“Her skin got dyed blue from the paint last night apparently.” The Nikerym told him.
“Oh for the love of the mother.” He groaned, tossing his head back, and closing his eyes. His fingers rubbed the bridge of his nose lightly, the beginnings of a migraine forming at just the thought of dealing with her like this. “Who was the one that helped paint her?  Maybe they know how to get it off.”
“Raina and Yvonne.  Yvonne and Thane are still resting. We weren’t able to get ahold of them.  Raina… I don’t know where she went.” The Nikerym responded, his arms crossed over his chest.
“Raina?” He asked, pausing, and looking up slowly.
“Yeah.  She’s been hanging out with raina quite a bit lately.” The nikerym arched a brow. “Is there something wrong?”
“No.” He replied, shaking his head.  A grin formed.  He’d just found his perfect revenge. “Nothing wrong at all.”
“Daddy?” Kassi’s voice came from the other side of the door.
“Yes I’m still here Kassi.” He responded, his thoughts running rampant with revenge plots.  He heard the lock on the door click, and the knob turning as she opened up the door slowly.  He made his way inside the room, realizing that this was the first time He had ever been to his daughter’s home.  He looked around at all the pastel colored decor she had collected.  The wall had been painted sky blue with white clouds scattered along each wall.  Various framed pictures of birds could be seen along the walls, and on the dresser.  The vanity was massive, and white.  Brushes, and makeup of all sorts covered the vanity’s counter top.  It looked like she had attempted to cover the blue with makeup, but only managed to make herself look like she had been strangled.  The blue tint still showed through all of the makeup she had put on.
“I don’t know what to do daddy!” She cried, flinging herself into his arms.  He was surprised by her outburst of emotion, and wrapped his arms lightly around her, patting her back gently.
“It’s alright Kassi.  We’ll figure it out.” He said, brushing his fingers through her hair in an effort to comfort her. It was very clear that he had no idea what he was doing.  He could sound sincere when he talked, but actually showing such emotion was something that he just could not manage.  His mind was elsewhere, and his daughter’s imaginary dilemma only was just not truly a top concern for him.
“Before tonight?” She asked, the tears streaking her makeup, and leaving lines of blue along her cheeks.
“If not… you can always go as a blue flame.” He suggested.  Her tears grew heavier, the wailing beginning.
“I need to be getting ready right now, and I have no idea what I’m going to wear!” She cried, pulling away from her Father, and sitting down in a huff on the bed.
“Well what were your planning on wearing before this happened?” He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I have a dress.  It’s red, and form fitting with little yellow and orange streamers coming down that look like flames.”  She pointed to the dress that had been laid out on the edge of the bed.  He moved to the edge of the bed, looking over the dress a moment.  He ran a hand over the material, casting a glamour spell to turn the red dress into a blue that matched her skin, and the yellow to white, and the orange to a purple.
“There.  Now you can be a blue flame, and no one will think anything of it.” He said, stepping back.  She turned to look at the dress, the tears stopping.
“Thanks daddy.” She said, a small smile forming. “I need to get dressed now.” She said, standing up to urge him out of the room.  It wasn’t long before He was kicked out of the room, and the door slammed in his face.  Perhaps It was time for him to go and get ready himself.

-----
Throughout the entire night, his attention was on her.  Even when he’d been comforting Lia, and Kassi, he’d been thinking of her.  His thoughts had been consumed with the revenge He wanted for the Fyre King’s need to take over everything, to destroy Colman’s life’s work.  It was almost like it had all been intentional.  He knew that He was probably being irrational, and that it was all in his head.  There was still that nagging thought though.  What if it wasn’t all in his head?  What if the Fyre King truly was a threat to his plans?  Maybe He’d played exactly into the Fyre King’s plans all along. What if, what if? The thoughts circled around endlessly, the constant noise maddening.  He’d gone to find Kassi, and make sure that she was alright after he was sure that Lia would be alright by herself.  When he’d found kassi however, she was far happier than he had expected.  She pounced him, leaping into his arms.  He almost didn’t catch her, but his reflexes worked quickly enough to end up catching her.
“What changed your mood so much?” He asked, confused by the change in his daughter since he’d seen her last.
“The world is grand!” She exclaimed, bouncing happily. “Meet me in Qual Ando and I’ll tell you everything.” She said. “I need to hurry home and change.” She ran off squealing, and giggling.  His attention was pulled away from her by something else though.  Ronan and Raina were saying goodbyes by the door leading towards the Sky Kingdom. Was this the chance he’d been waiting for? He watched as the couple parted ways, ronan heading towards Lia’s chambers, where she had gone off to relax, and rest.  Raina had stepped out the door, to the Balcony that was away from where most of the guests would be exiting.  He moved towards the refreshment bar quickly, grabbing a dark fruit, and slicing it open.  The fruit was dark, yet sweet.  Too much of the pure juice would cause someone to go into a state where they hallucinated themselves into a catatonic state.  He poured two glasses of red wine, and pressed the juice of three of the fruits into the glass before giving it a good swirl.  Two would have been fine for what he needed, but he didn’t want to risk anything.
With both glasses in hand, He followed Raina out the door.  Both of her parents, and brother had left earlier in the evening, distracted by their own going ons.  No one was left to notice him heading out to the balcony behind her.
“Lovely night isn’t it?” He said, approaching her slowly.  She turned to look at him, a soft smile forming on her face. “I figured you could use a drink.” He said, offering the glass of wine that he had tainted.
“Absolutely.” She said, accepting the glass with a soft nod of her head in appreciation. “It’s been a very hectic week so far. I can’t wait to see what he rest of the celebrations hold.” She said, turning back to lean on the railings, glass in hand.  He watched her, waiting for her to take a drink.
“It most definitely has.” He said, standing beside her.  He took a drink from his own untainted glass, and smiled. “I am hoping that our other halves work out whatever happened between them to cause such tension.” He added, looking back towards the main area. they were completely alone.
“I hope so.” Raina sighed, taking her wine, and drinking the entire glass down in one gulp.  She looked to the glass for a moment, confusion covering her face as she dropped the glass, stumbling away from him.
“Shhh…” He said, moving closer towards her. “Just let go, and give in.” He whispered, moving to catch her as she fell forward.
“Fuck you.” She mumbled into his chest just before losing consciousness.  He grinned devilishly to himself in response, and lifted her up.  They vanished without any hesitation, leaving only the glass behind.
