The fair maiden beauty Brynhild was having a snit fit, as was her usual mood of lately.  The all father Odin had enraged her yet again with his bane of desire.  He was constantly trying to get under her skirt. It took all her cunning, and effort, and strength to deny his sexual advances.
“Why can’t he accept that fact that I am just not romantically interested in him.”, she fumed at Grimhild, the wife of King Gjuki of Burgundy, and a beautiful but evil sorceress.  Grimheld only shrugged in a half-hearted display of pretending to listen to the repetitive rant once again.

She’d heard too many times before and still she doesn’t understand what the fuss is all about.  Odin was a womanizer, everyone knew it, but not everyone was lucky enough to be the object of his desire. Not only that, but Brynhild had also rejected Gunnar, Hǫgni and Guthormr, the three eligible bachelor sons of Grimheld.  The sorceress was convinced that Brynhild was cursed with a condition known as misandry; the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against men or boys for whatever reason.  She also had her suspicions that Brynhild might be a lesbian, although Brynhild would fiercely disagree with that analysis.

Brynhild all but shouted at the beguiling sorceress, “Turn him into the warty toad that he truly is!!  Surely you can help rid me of this annoying egocentric pest!  I am fed up and sick of him!”
Grimheld threw her head back and laughed bemused, “So, you want me … to turn the All Mighty, All Father Odin … into a warty toad.  Oh boy, do you ever have delusions of grandeur! Do you really think that you’re all that special?  Odin can mate with a dozen women better than you, and much prettier, too.  No, I’ll not help you harm him, but here’s an idea ....”

Grimheld produced an enchanted wand in her hand and moved it in a slow circle as she incant a few magical words of an ancient language.  A ring of fire blazed up around Brynhild, enclosing her within its smoky confines.  Brynhild screamed in rage, threatening to destroy Grimheld for this betrayal of friendship.  Once finished with the spell, Grimheld let the flames die down gradually and smiled in an unpleasant way, “There, it is done … now No man can have you Unless they can win you in battle.  They must prove their worth before pursuing your affections. That also … includes … Odin.   As a Valkyrie, you can decide who will live, and who will die, who will go to Fólkvangr in their afterlife, and who will go to Valhalla with honor.  I give you this Valkyrie power as a gift.  Do not make me regret it.”

Brynhild was stunned silent but her eyes burned with anger and hatred for the sorceress.  There was only one man who fluttered her heart, that man was Sigurd, a hero among the Asgardians.  But alas, his pure heart was set afire by Gudrun, a daughter of Grimheld, and it was to her that he was betrothed.   Sigurd and Gudrun were already promised to each other. Brynhild clenched her fists and gave her foot an angry stomp.  Now not even Sigurd could woo her, if by a slim miracle he so wished it. Brynhild was heartbroken and that one tiny spark of hope crushed within her.

“Just go woman!”, Brynhild shouted in the brink of tears, and pointed to the door, “You’ve done enough damage for one day, now get out!”
