Recovering The Great Library

To say the gods of Egypt had been worried with the rise of the Greek rule through Egypt was an understatement. The concern was a real one, with those from above the Mediterranean seeking to rule their golden land times got more volatile. More political intrigue and deception, on a much grander scale then ever before. Time for the gods was a different beast, and they took the transitions from Greek to Roman rule to decide action was needed. Under the guidance of Thoth the scholars of Egypt has amassed a great wealth of knowledge, added to by the invaders. And now wars threatened the safety of that. The library at Alexandria had become a mecca for those seeking to know more of their world, and the buildings that made up the network of information there was protected by Thoth. But turbulent times were coming, all could feel it, Anhur and Menhit confirming their worst fears. The city that had become a beacon for hope in the future was poised to fall.

None wanted to see all that had been built there lost, but they didn’t interfere in the lives of mortals in extreme ways. So stopping the coming destruction wasn’t their place, while they could guide some hands it would fall to the mortals to rise or fall on their own. But the knowledge, the history, that would benefit all of humanity, that they could spirit away, it could be saved to be offered later, when the mortals learned better ways of the world. So Nut was tasked with a night so deep and black the moon was blind, where none could see that under the blanket of darkness a few were tasked with the challenge of moving the worlds most precious cargo into hiding.

The most priceless of scrolls were replaced with rubbish, things likely to burn up anyway in the fires that always accompany war. All packaged into wagon that would make the journey south, into the former upper kingdom where Thoth had chosen a temple that would act as safe haven. The scrolls were hidden, by time and sand and believed lost in the fires that ravaged Alexander the greats once gem of a city. Millennia passed, the gods taking a reprieve from the world of the mortals, until a resurgence, like those of the past. At the time it was decided that someone should catalog, read, preserve the works that the gods had ensured the protection of. “Call on The Aten, rumor has it he has a consort, one that works with knowledge. Who better to be the first to see these works in thousands of years? Besides shes not mortal, so she should be trustworthy enough.” Nut's words were taken to heart, though the gods could prove just as fickle, this was a solid plan. Thoth worked on a new library, one hidden for now just as the temple had been before it, majestic and glorious in ever respect.
