Quote the Raven

storm god

I have no plans to die today

The buildings of Baltimore had a sad feeling to them. The thunder rolled across the dark grey sky, night was coming, and small flashes of lightning could be seen through the thick clouds. The storm had come to it’s height, pouring water upon this dirty city as the lamps around town were going out, and people were trying to rush home to get out of the rain. This was Midgard, but it was not the Midgard of the time we all know.

He sat down upon the desk. The rain was beating against the rooftops of the small flat he was staying in. So much had happened these past few years, Thor was not sure how to process it all. He left New Asgard in the rightful hands of Valkyrie, she would do well with it. She was a worthy warrior and a worthy King of Asgard. Thor decided after Gorr he would go find himself yet again, figure out exactly who he was.

He knew of Loki, he was somewhere dealing with his own battles, the God of Thunder was tired, and for some odd reason, his goal, was to find one of the variants of Loki, perhaps win him over on his side. He was lonely and he needed his brother back, whatever variant he would find. This caused him to end up in some dimension which seemed very similar to Victorian Era Baltimore.

The horses and carriages outside were going to and from their locations, the gaslight lamps were already dimming, but he assumed most of this was caused by the heavy downpour of rain outside. He was seeking his brother, where was he? Which variant would he come upon? He heard of all of the variants out there, this is what magic did, it messed with reality and as it should be, but he was not one to complain about it, he had used magic from Stephen Strange to end up where he was today.

He did often think of his Asgardians, or what was left of them. All of those he served with, all of those he cared for, so many were now in Valhalla, even Jane, the Mighty Thor, with his trusty Heimdall, maybe he should throw in the hammer and end up in Valhalla with all of those he loved? As he thought of this, outside, the tiny window that looked upon the dirty streets of Baltimore, there sat a raven, he stared at, there was something very unnatural about this raven.

The God of Thunder then saw the raven just sitting there, in his window, staring upon him with those blank eyes. “Loki?” the raven just sat there, staring at him, then it tapped at the window, just tapped, several times, and that unnerved the God of Thunder “Tis you Loki? Right?” the raven just sat there, tapped again, then it said something very strange, the raven cawed NEVERMORE. That caused the God of Thunder to now take a step back, blue eyes wide, and he realized this couldn’t be Loki, right?

“Loki!! Talk to me brother, tell me, where are you? Where can I find the rest of you, I miss you brother, speak to me Loki!!” the raven then moved closer to the window, it pecked on the window again, and once again the raven said “NEVERMORE” Why does this raven do this? What is it saying? Loki is gone? There is no Loki. Is that what this dark ebony bird is saying to him?

“Raven I implore you, speak my brother’s name, are you my brother you craven bird from another shore, tell me tell me now” Quote the raven again and again NEVERMORE, NEVERMORE, NEVERMORE! The rain continued to pour as the raven haunted him, taunted him,  and then upon the stroke of midnight, like a ghost upon the shore, the raven disappeared and he was nevermore.
