Something Evil resides here

Then...

Pawleys Island, South Carolina

Shoving the screen door open, quickly followed by the front door; Riley slipped the gym bag from her shoulder, and dropped it in a heap on the floor, as she did so, she called out to her Mother.

“MOM!” An annoyance was apparent in her tone. “MOM!” She called again however nothing but silence greeted her.  “Did you forget something?” She paused, waiting for her Mother to enter the hallway or call back an apologetic reply.  “You forgot to pick me up after Soccer tryouts... MOM!...”  Again, nothing. Which was unusual. Even more so for her Mother to forget In the first place, she was the most punctual and organized, if somewhat OCD person Riley knew, and one of her Mother’s other irritating traits was her great dislike of tardiness. She had also double-checked with her just that morning before school and confirmed the time tryouts were expected to finish so her Mother Anne, knew full well when to pick her up.

“Mom!” This time, She called out with a sense of concern, welling up in her voice.
As Riley rounded the door frame from the hallway leading into the kitchen, the young girl was unprepared for the bloody sight that greeted her. Her eyes widened with disbelief and an overwhelming fear gripped her tightly, threatening to strangle the life out of her. The sounds of a chilling scream shook her further until she realized that she was the one screaming. Her Mother's Mangled and distorted body lay in a pool of her blood.

Now….

The Impala’s engine roared with superlative unison with The Highway to Hell blaring from the car’s stereo speakers. Dean’s window lowered, as the cool wind whipped through the opening; billowing through the short strands of his hair. Having passed the welcome sign about a quarter of a mile back, they were just coming up to the town itself. The miles of the grey road gave way to civilization, trees banked on one side and the other, quaint old houses dotted within the woodland landscape, and further still, the beach and the sea. Dean couldn’t believe his luck, an actual case by the sea. He was unapologetically gleeful, as the scent of the salt air swamed around his nostrils. “Sammy, Sammy, Sammy….” He chanted, as glanced toward his brother sleeping seemingly soundly in the passenger seat. Quite how Sam slept through the ‘drone’ was a mystery, but clearly his ‘little’ brother must have needed his ‘beauty’ sleep’

The town emerged on either side, and so Dean returned the stereo volume to a respectable level, as he pulled into the car park of the local tavern. He was about to poke Sam but instead left him to sleep. Entering the bar, the first thing that Dean noticed was the mix of magickal paraphernalia, which he recognized due to many past hours in the company of Rowena, Zee and Lae, was interspersed between beach decor and bric-a-brac. The second was a pin board behind the bar, with numerous photos attached. Many faces staring right into the soul of anyone looking upon them; captured and frozen in that one moment in time. One of which he recognized from the article Sam had discovered just a couple of days ago. It was just one of many over the previous week that had piqued the Winchester Brother’s interest and had brought them to this small beach town in South Carolina.

“Can I help you?” Asked the woman behind the counter
“Umm..I was just admiring the unusual decor…” Dean replied, approaching the bar.

“It belonged to my Great Aunt.. She collected lots of….stuff..I just left it around the place when I inherited it. I think it adds a bit of flavor”

“That is one way to look at it” Dean responded, although all he and his Brother have come up against over the years, has led him to be slightly skeptical of the innocence of such objects. That said, he had also learned that not all those who practice witchcraft commit diabolical acts, besides, in his own mind he was playing ‘devil's advocate’ until he got the lay of the land, and they could merely be decoration.

“Say, isn’t that the woman that uhh, died?” He inquired casually, motioning to the wall behind the female. She turned to look at the pinboard, “Anne.. It’s such a shame. This is a small town, everyone knows everyone..Her husband past. God rest his soul just last year, leaving Riley all alone.”
“Riley, that’s the daughter?”

“Yup.. She’s staying with the neighbor while they track down the next of kin. Poor kid. I can’t imagine what it was like walking in and seeing the sight that she did.. So traumatising…But what was it I could get you?”
“Uhh, yeah..Looking for a place to stay?”
“Okay, you want the blue Cabana motel, down Waverly road, bout a 5-minute drive”

“Oh, and I can see on your menu there, fried chicken and waffles. Can I have some to go, please.. And better make that another waffle and hashed egg.. Thanks…”

Other pleasantries were swapped before Dean left with the food, and placing both lots on Sams lap, he made the short drive to the Blue Cabana Motel.
