Sharon Carter is the great-niece of legendary S.H.I.E.L.D. founder and Director Peggy Carter. Following in her aunt's footsteps, Carter became an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., codenamed Agent 13. Although she never revealed her relation, not wanting to be put under the pressure of living up to any expectations. Under direct orders from Nick Fury, Carter was tasked with going undercover as a nurse, living next to Steve Rogers. When Fury was attacked, she blew her cover to Rogers. After HYDRA was revealed to have been operating within S.H.I.E.L.D., Carter chose to stay loyal to her organization, and fought during the Battle at the Triskelion to protect millions of lives.
In the aftermath of the HYDRA Uprising, Carter left the disbanded S.H.I.E.L.D. and joined the CIA, before being stationed at the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre. When the Vienna International Centre was bombed, Carter returned to the JCTC after giving Rogers information on Bucky Barnes. When Barnes was arrested and brought into the JCTC, Helmut Zemo reactivated his mental programming, causing Carter to try and stop him, to no success. She later assisted Rogers in handing over his team's equipment, which would indirectly spark the devastating Avengers Civil War. Her involvement in helping Rogers would cause Carter to go on the run after being branded an enemy of the state by the US government and isolated from the intelligence community.
Thought wiped out by the snap she was actually captured and impersonated by the Skrulls. Her imposter set up shop in Madripoor and started creating a vast criminal network, and assumed the name of the Power Broker. Sharon herself was liberated shortly before Nick Fury's return to Earth by Maria Hill. Fury's former executive officer gave Sharon a haven and a new purpose in life. With that new life included the infinity serum, similar but different than the super soldier serum. Instead of making frail become human perfection, the individual's body becomes always at peak condition with an extreme decrease in physical aging. The formula came from the stars courtesy of Carol Danvers, originally meant for Agent Hill, it was decided Sharon needed it more in her weakened condition. Therefore she became a peak female form in contrast to other augmentations that happened during the Cold War.
Upon Maria's passing, Agent Carter then assumed the Executive Directorship of the new S.H.I.E.L.D., to which Nick Fury was taken out of the loop given his absence and closeness to the Skrulls. Agent 13 is also aware of the Power Broker's activities but for now only observes until the time is right to act. To keep her identity a secret she often uses replica nano masks to look like Maria Hill to fellow agents and Abigail Whistler when dealing with the criminal underworld. Though Nick Fury suspects, the only ones who know Sharon is back is Maria Hill, Steve Rogers, Abigail Whistler along with her close allies like Blade, Nyssa, and Hannibal King. In return for using Whistler's likeness, Sharon aids the vampire hunters with information and technology depending on the missions their assigned too. For now, like her Great Aunt Margaret 'Peggy' Carter before her, Agent 13 now runs the world's top espionage organization. Her goal is to stop all adversaries to freedom whether globally or abroad. For like her Aunt Peggy, she believes in a mans' world, one woman can make a difference.
