About Birdman
Birdman is an ordinary human who has been endowed by the sun god Ra with the ability to shoot solar rays from his fists and project quasi-solid "solar shields" to defend himself against attacks. (However, his origin is only vaguely, and only briefly, implied during the series. His real name is given as Raymond "Ray" Randall. His occupation before he actually became Birdman is never stated.) He was recruited by a top-secret government agency, Inter-Nation Security, and now works for it full time fighting crime, assisted by his avian "sidekick," a male eagle who responds to the name of Avenger. (It is not specified whether Inter-Nation Security actually compensates Birdman financially for the services he renders to it.)
In addition to the other abilities he has received from Ra, Birdman also possesses the power of flight, thanks to giant wings which Ra has empowered him to cause to sprout from his back. His sole weakness is his need to recharge his super-humanoid powers periodically through exposure to the sun’s rays, a weakness that is exposed and/or otherwise exploited by his enemies in nearly every episode. His trademark is his battle cry of "Biiiiirdman!!" whenever he goes into battle.
Birdman is assisted by his eagle companion, Avenger. Birdman's sole vulnerability is that he loses his strength, and his other abilities commence to wane, whenever he is away from sunlight, and/or any other potential sources of heat and/or light, for extended periods of time. He does always manage to replenish his energy, and thereby restore his powers, within the courses of every episode, but there is a possibility that (though none of the episodes actually state or even imply this) if Birdman is kept unable to replenish his energy and thus restore his powers for too long a time, then the resulting lack of energy will eventually kill him; with his death as Birdman, this possibility could also mean that the Raymond Randall he once was will also die.
