Family Dinner
When Doris had set
out to plan a family dinner she had been excited. It was the first
formal planning she had done since her and Nereus were released from
their captivity. But she often opted not to think about their time as
stone, about the hardships they felt at the hand of Zeus, and today
especially she wanted nothing but happy thoughts. She had opted for a
setting outside, with the Aegean Sea as their backdrop. A long table
was brought out and set to her specifications, enough room for their
family though she doubted all 51 of her children could be counted on
showing tonight. But they did have special guests coming this
evening, her daughter Arethusa was bringing along a man, and with her
man would be coming the child they had taken in. Her husband might be
keen for a glance at the man who had caught their daughters heart but
Doris could admit she was anxious to meet the little boy. She was
already dressed, a long simple Grecian gown that had caught the
attention of Keto's cat, one swiped from her sister. “Get him inside
please?” she asked one of the girls assisting her with the details
as she herself settled blooms along the table. The air was warm, the
sounds of the water relaxing and the scents from the kitchen wafted
out to greet her. Her husband and children knew when to be there, so
she finished triple checking details before they all arrived.
